Brisbane Water Fishing Report – This Week
Winter fishing has been producing some
quality fish across Brisbane Water, with clear water and cooler temperatures
making for excellent estuary conditions.
What's Biting
Flathead
·
Plenty of fish
are sitting on drop-offs and sand flats.
·
Best areas
include Booker Bay, Woy Woy Channel, Blackwall and around the mouth near
Ettalong.
·
Soft plastics
(3–4") in motor oil, white or pearl, along with pilchard strips and
whitebait, are working well.
Bream
·
Winter bream are
schooling around jetties, oyster leases, bridges and rocky shorelines.
·
Fresh prawns,
nippers and lightly weighted peeled prawns have been the standout baits.
·
Small hardbodies
and grub-style plastics are producing quality fish around structure.
Kingfish
·
A few legal
kingfish are showing around the Rip Bridge, Lion Island and Broken Bay for
anglers putting in the time.
·
Live squid,
yellowtail and slimy mackerel remain the best baits.
·
Early morning and
tide changes are giving the best chance of success.
Tailor & Salmon
·
Tailor continue
to patrol the entrances and beaches, particularly around Ettalong and Umina.
·
Australian salmon
schools are moving through Broken Bay and provide excellent sport on metal
lures and pilchards.
Squid
·
Good numbers of
southern calamari are being caught over the weed beds around Hardys Bay, Pretty
Beach and Wagstaffe.
·
Natural-coloured
2.5–3.0 jigs have been the most consistent producers during clear mornings.
Conditions
·
The cleaner
winter water has improved lure fishing throughout the estuary.
·
The last two
hours of the run-in tide and the first hour of the run-out have been the most
productive fishing periods this week.
Tip of the Week
Don't overlook small soft vibes this
winter. Working them slowly through deeper channels can produce an impressive
mixed bag including bream, flathead, tailor, salmon and even the occasional
mulloway when fish are holding close to the bottom.
The cooler weather is really favouring winter
species, and anglers fishing the tide changes with fresh bait or subtle lures
are enjoying the most consistent results this week.
