BRISBANE WATER FISHING REPORT 19th - 25th October
So, what’s biting, where should you be casting, and what should you have tied onto the end of your line? Let’s get into it!
FIRST UP — FLATHEAD!
Flathead remain a top target throughout Brisbane Water. Work those sand flats, weed edges, drop-offs and deeper channel margins with soft plastics or lightly weighted baits.
Keep moving, cover the ground, and make every cast count. There could be a big flatty waiting just around the next drop-off!
NOW, FOR THE JEWFISH HUNTERS!
If you're heading out after dark, the deeper holes, bridge approaches and channel edges are worth a look.
Fresh squid, live bait and larger soft plastics are all worth a try. Pay attention to the tide changes, be patient, and you could be in with a shot at one of Brisbane Water's prized silver slabs!
AND KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE SURFACE — THE TAILOR COULD BE ON THE RAMPAGE!
Watch for nervous baitfish, diving birds and sudden surface strikes around the lower reaches and entrance.
Have a metal slug or stickbait ready to go, because when tailor crash into a bait school, the action can be absolutely explosive!
BREAM ARE ON THE HIT LIST TOO!
Oyster racks, pontoons, rocky edges and bridge structure are all worth exploring. Try small lures, soft plastics or fresh bait, particularly around sunrise and sunset when the fish can become more active.
AND DON'T FORGET THE WHITING!
The sandy flats are worth a look as spring conditions develop. Beach worms, live worms and yabbies are great options, while surface-lure anglers should keep those poppers and walk-the-dog lures ready for some exciting shallow-water action!
NOW, HERE'S YOUR EMPIRE HOT TIP!
Don't just fish where the fish were yesterday — find the bait today!
Look for nervous mullet, prawns flicking on the surface, diving birds and baitfish scattering across the water. These are all clues that feeding fish could be close by.
And while warmer offshore currents can influence bait movement along the coast, always keep an eye on local water conditions, tides and wind.
Flathead are well worth targeting, jewfish are keeping the night anglers interested, tailor could provide explosive surface action, squid remain a great option, and bream and whiting are keeping the estuary fishos busy!
